Review & Giveaway: Sinners & Saints: A Patriot's Manifesto by Kristina Garlick

Sinners & Saints: A Patriot's Manifesto
by Kristina Garlick

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Fantasy/Young Adult
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

My name is Zoey Major and I live in Fort Star, New Jersey. I am also a survivor in the zombie apocalypse. Seems very cut and dry but I have been hiding something- like really huge. My secret is game changing. I am not like the others... I know, what a surprise twist! Unfortunately, I can’t tell you why I am different. If you really want to know, you have to figure it out. Hey, even in these dark times, a girl needs her secrets.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Review:
It was an interesting and compelling read, I had some initial difficulties to get used to the style of this novel but after it caught me.
The United States were invaded and destroyed by zombies. Zoey has a secret and is the only salvation for the world. Will she succeed?
The style of this novel is very special, a mixture of diary and play. It's written in first person by Zoey's POV and the dialogues are written as if it are a play. It's the first time I read a book written with this style and after the initial difficulties I really enjoyed it.
The characters are well defined and likeable. Zoey is a great heroine, unable to accept that her country has disappeared and struggles for its rebirth. I also loved Catey, Zoey's friend, and her dark humor.
The plot is clever, engaging and well developed, the pace is good: an enjoyable read
EXCERPT:
United we... united we... we were supposed to stand together as a society but it did not work out like that. The United States and much of the world, actually went to sh*t for a little bit when the zombies came. Perhaps the only saving grace was the fact that man learns to adapt. We always do. A prime example would be the invention of the wheel, the television or even a toaster pastry because why the f*ck not eat something bad for you?
For you see, if man has a want or desire, it may take years, but he'll invent it. One thing I am still waiting on is that damn time machine. I am looking at you, Doc Brown. Ha! However, not all inventions should ever leave the paper. Sometimes an idea is just an idea as biological weapons rarely ever make anything better. Yeah, perhaps not every weapon should be tested or even used, as the results can't always be contained. United we... united we... we were supposed to stand together.
Present Day, June 30, 10:25 pm
Catey: "So is it cool that I sign you up for speed dating?"
Zoey: "What? No, f*ck no."
Catey: "Why not?"
Zoey: "There should be no speed dating in the zombie apocalypse."
Catey: "It's post apocalypse so get it right."
Zoey: "For now."
Catey: "And this is why you are single. You are so negative."
Zoey: "Huh, I didn't know that was the reason. I just thought it was because every eligible bachelor who isn't a toad has been either taken or eaten but hey, maybe I am wrong."
Catey: "I think it's because you put up a wall."
Zoey: "Stop analyzing me, or at the very least give me a Rorschach test or at the very least a crossword puzzle to pass the time then."
The Black Thumb (Professor Molly Mysteries) (Volume 3)
Paperback: 342 pages
Publisher: Hawaiian Heritage Press (April 18, 2016)
ISBN-13: 978-1943476183
Synopsis
When a violent death disrupts the monthly meeting of the Pua Kala Garden society, Professor Molly Barda has no intention of playing amateur detective. But Molly’s not just a witness-the victim is Molly’s house guest and grad-school frenemy. And Molly quickly finds to her dismay that her interest in the murder of the stylish and self-centered Melanie Polewski is more than just…academic.
My Review
I was happy to come back to visit this beautiful island of Hawaii and to read another clever mystery by Frankie Bow. Her books are so compelling that catch you from the first page.
Professor Molly would like to buy Brewster House, the ancient house of ownership of Mrs Msterman to move there soon after her marriage. The owner seeks a buyer who is able to love the house as much as she. She is the president of Pua Kala Garden Society and Molly takes part in the monthly meetings in order to make a good impression. During the last meeting Melanie, Molly's old school friend visiting the island, is found dead. Molly unfortunately is suspected of murder. She must investigate to clear her name and will also have some problems with her engagement.
It is the third book in the series but really does work well as a standalone.
The plot is well developed, well written with a good pace and with an interesting cast of characters. It 's an easy and engaging read, great company for the afternoons by the sea
NEW RELEASE........
Chased by Love, Love in Bloom: The Ryders #3
Actress Trish Ryder takes her job seriously and has no time for those who don't. When she's awarded a major role in a new movie featuring America's hottest rock star, Boone Stryker, she's beyond excited. The six-two, tattooed hunk of burning desire is known for his dedication to his craft--but when he ditches their first meeting, she begins to wonder if he's just another rocker with a great PR team.
Sex, booze, women, and music pretty much sum up Boone Stryker's private world. He's coasted through life playing by his own rules with plenty of people willing to cover his tracks, and he's not likely to change--until he meets a woman who refuses to give him the time of day, much less anything more.
Sparks fly from the first moment Trish and Boone meet--Tensions run hot and desire runs hotter when they're trapped together on a remote location with no place to hide. Will sparks ignite, or will a hurricane douse the flames?
*** THE RYDERS are the newest addition to the LOVE IN BLOOM series by New York Times & USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Melissa Foster. This 5-book hot contemporary romance series features alpha male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They’re flawed, funny, passionate, and relatable to readers who enjoy new adult romance, contemporary romance, and women’s fiction. While each book may be read as a standalone, you might enjoy reading the entire Love in Bloom series (The Snow Sisters, The Bradens, The Remingtons, & Seaside Summers)
My Review
One of the things I love most of Melissa Foster's books (besides of course the love stories) are the wonderful families that she creates, I would really like to be part of each of them: brothers and sisters who help and support each other, males very protective of her sisters, especially if they are smaller. I loved the first few pages of this story where Jake and Duke were trying to protect and encourage their sister Trish.
Trish is a good actress, loves her job and performs it with great commitment and passion. She has the fortune of having to work on the set with Boone, a sexy rock star in his feature film debut. And she's terrified at the thought of working with one of which has always been in love. How will she hear his voice,  see him so close and not faint? In addition Boone doesn't take seriously this work complicating things further.
This author always creates magic couples with a really explosive chemical. Trish and Boone are perfect together, he's so sexy, impossible not to be his grupie. Trish is sweet and very charming.
Although it is the third book in the series can be read as stand alone but they are well written that it is worth to read them all.
It 's a romance sweet, sensual and exciting, a must-read for lovers of romance.
Review & Giveaway: When a Marquis Chooses a Bride by Ella Quinn
When a Marquis Chooses a Bride
by Ella Quinn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Historical Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Thanks to their large extended family and unconventional courtship, the Worthingtons have seen their share of scandal and excitement. But nothing has prepared them for this...
The Dowager Lady Worthington isn’t quite sure what to make of country-girl Dorothea Stern. As the granddaughter of the Duke of Bristol, Dotty is schooled in the ways and means of the nobility. But her sharp wit and outspoken nature has everyone in a tizzy. Especially their cousin, Dominic, the Marquis of Merton.
Prematurely stuffy, Dom was raised by his cheerless uncle to be wary of a host of things, including innovation, waltzing, and most perilous of all: true love. Still, there’s something about Dotty, beyond her beauty, that Dom cannot resist. But the odds are against him if he intends to win her as his bride. Will he choose loyalty to his family—or risk everything for the one woman he believes is his perfect match…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My Review:

Each romance by Ella Quinn is always a pleasant surprise. I loved every second spent with Dominic and Dorothea and their friends and relatives
Dominic, Marquis of Merton, has decided to get married, he wants at his side a woman who is worthy of being a marquise, has had a good education and be able to give him an heir. He's a man of strict principles, has no consideration of people of lower social classes to him and wants to absolutely avoid a woman who could cause scandals. His mother hopes that he could find a wife who is able to change his mind. Dotty Stern is happy to do his first season in London with her friend Grace. Since their first meeting Dominic and Dotty are very attracted to each other but they are not the ideal couple. Will Dotty be able to transform him in a better person?
I loved Dotty, is an instinctive woman, cheerful, sweet, animal lover and always willing to help someone weak and in difficulty. Although Dom's ideas are different from her and all her friends advise her to avoid him alone she can not help but try to change him. At the beginning it's hard to be in tune with Dom but when emerges his gentler side becomes truly the ideal man.
This is the second in the series but I don't believe it is essential to have read the first to enjoy this one but both are great stories, so why not give yourself a treat and read them both? (My Review of the first book is here). I can't wait to read the third book.
It's a very enjoyable romance, there are scenes very funny and others very sweet and romantic. It's well written with a good pace, the characters are warm and believable, the plot is clever.
If you love Regency romance this is a must read

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
Dominic, Marquis of Merton, settled into his apartment at the Pulteney Hotel. His pride still stung at having been ejected from his cousin, Matt Worthington’s, town house. Blowing a cloud was the latest thing. Not that Dom would attempt to smoke in White’s, that was not allowed, but he outranked Worthington and should have been treated as an honored guest, not summarily told to leave. Still, it was probably convenient that Dom did not actually enjoy smoking, as he was sure the Pulteney would not allow it either.
He should have gone on his Grand Tour instead of taking a bolt to Town. But his mother had received a letter informing her of his cousin’s plans to wed, and he decided starting his own nursery would be the most responsible course. After all, the succession would not look after itself, and he had a duty to his family and dependents. Perhaps he would travel after he married.
Not that Dom truly wished to leave England. He liked an ordered life and travel was sure to disrupt the structure with which he was comfortable. He did not wish to visit France at all. Any land where the inhabitants would murder their betters held little interest for him. It all came back to the proper order of things. Life was much better when everyone followed the rules and knew their places.
He reconsidered opening up Merton House for the Season, but there was really no point when his mother was not here as well. Without her to act as his hostess, he would not be able to plan any entertainments other than for his friends. The hotel would  suit for the short time he planned to spend in Town. It should not take him that long to find a wife. He was a marquis. Even without his considerable fortune, he would have been a desirable parti.
Release Blitz packet for Finding Rachel by HJ Harley
Finding Rachel
by H.J. Harley
Rachel Fallon is gone. With everything changing at a pace she can't control, she isn't sure whose life she's living anymore. Is this the life she wants or the life everybody else wants for her? When Rachel decides to leave her fiance, Tyler, and best friend, Jordie, behind, the journey to rediscovering herself takes her places that she never expected. It also leads her to meet someone who could be everything she wants. Her choices aren't easy ones and will bring her laughs, tears and heartbreak regardless of what she decides. All that matters is she's finally Finding Rachel.
The driver got out to greet me.
"Miss Fallon." He nodded his head. "I'm Decker ..." he began, but I walked right past him and opened the back door to get in. He waited until I shut it, then climbed back into the driver's seat and looked at me in the rear view mirror.
"As I was saying, I'm Decker. I'll be your driver."
"Great, got it, you're Frank's monkey boy," I snapped at him. "Can you just take me to the hotel or wherever the hell it is I'm staying? Thanks."
He put the truck in drive, but we remained idle. "Okay then. Is there anything you need to get before we go to wherever the hell it is you're staying? Would you like to stop anywhere to pickup lunch?"
I wasn't paying attention to a damn word that man was saying. I was zoned out looking at the picture of Tyler and me. It was my favorite one ...
"Are you high?" Decker asked.
"What? No? Why would you ask me that? Not like it's any of your fucking business if I was," I shot back at him, whipping my sunglasses off my face.
"Great, now that I have your attention, how about you let me know if you need to stop anywhere before getting to your destination. I'll keep it simple for you ... a head nod or some sort of gesture will suffice," he teased.
"I've got a gesture for you," I went back at him. I flipped him off, but down low where I thought he wouldn't see it.
"Ahh, dammit." He gave an exaggerated frown. "Frank bet me twenty bucks you'd give me some inappropriate answer or gesture within the first three minutes of meeting. I bet him you wouldn't. I'm a benefit of the doubt kind of guy. You almost made it. Two minutes and thirty three seconds." He picked up this phone and showed me the stopwatch timer.
"Just drive, please." I put my glasses on, and a small laugh escaped my lips.
"There we go. See, isn't that better than being a cranky pants?" In the rear view, I could see a hint of playfulness in his eyes. "You're in Miami. It's beautiful."
"Yes, you're one hundred percent correct, so much better. Now go." Again letting out a small laugh. I failed miserably at my attempt to be demanding.
"What's the magic word?"
Holy shit, man. You're like the worst employee of all employees on this planet. Please drive me somewhere besides crazy." I begged.
"There we go. Another milestone. You survived being pleasant." He began to drive off.
