The Siren's Touch
by Amber Belldene
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Kensington/Lyrical
Release Date: July 21, 2015

One touch can change everything…

Hitman Dmitri Lisko is determined to avenge his father. Once he takes out the man he believes is responsible for his family’s tragedies, he’s done killing for good. But a mysterious woman may tempt Dmitri to change his plan.

Sonya Truss was murdered in a Ukrainian village in 1968. Now she’s reappeared in San Francisco as a rusalka—the ghost of a wronged woman. And she’s thirsty for the blood of her killer. But she has to make things right before she’s trapped between worlds forever.

Sonya's enigmatic siren powers stir Dmitri's long-buried chivalry, and he finds himself compelled to help her. He also can’t resist giving her a taste of the pleasures she never experienced while she was alive. Soon they discover that touch has surprising consequences. Yet when their shared mission comes to cross-purposes, they must choose between deadly sacrifice—or surrendering to the one act that can save them both.

The teapot jostled like there was a frog inside.

He had to be hallucinating. Holy hell, he’d never been this hungover. Then again, he’d never been on a thirty-day bender either. Quitting cold turkey after a vodka-soaked month was bound to be rough on the system. The teapot was definitely not jittering, only his sanity. Caffeine might help.

He lifted the little round thing by the handle. A gust of steam poured out as deep-brown liquid trickled from its spout into his mug—an antique glass cup wrapped in silver filigree. In his hand, the teapot shook, jostling his arm.

Damn it. That was no hallucination.

A sudden puff of steam collided with his face. He set the teapot down and wiped his moist eyes. When he opened them again, he was certain he’d lost his mind.

Hovering over Elena’s postcard-perfect traditional Ukrainian table setting was a shimmering tea-colored woman. No, not a woman.

He reached for his weapon, knocking his chair to the floor. Scrambling across the room, he got as far as he could get from that...thing.

Back pressed to the wall, his heart drummed against his sternum. What the hell was she?

She dripped brown droplets of smoky Russian Caravan onto the table and gasped for air with her gossamer hands clasped at her neck. Her brown eyes stretched wide in her heart-shaped face.

Had he completely lost his mind? “Fuck.”

The thing yelped, flying away and leaving a sprinkling of tea droplets in her wake. As they fell to the ground, she grew whiter, becoming the soft, shiny color of a perfect pearl.

A ghost. Holy hell.

All his skin rose up in goose bumps. Could you shoot a ghost? Or a hallucination? He was damn sure going to try. He took aim.

She coughed and coughed and coughed some more, making a horrible wet retching sound. Then she darted to a spot near the window, bending her spectral shape over to hack, as if she could clear her throat. Only it didn’t seem to be working.

Without thinking, he lowered his weapon. “Breathe, girl. Be calm.”

Slowly, she straightened, and her chest rose and fell in the rhythm of breath. The sun shone through her translucent form, highlighting a smoking hot set of curves under a long, wet nightgown. Large brown nipples poked through the ghostly, damp fabric, and a dark vee between her legs drew his gaze.

Hell.

This wet dream of a sexy, drowned ghost was proof he’d jumped into the deep end.

Amber Belldene is always reading racy books at the most inappropriate times, and has been observed ogling her Kindle in the church parking lot. Even as a kid, she hid novels inside the service bulletin to read during sermons, an irony that is not lost on her when she preaches these days. Amber is a romance writer and Episcopal priest who believes sexuality is vital to spirituality, love is beautifully messy, and stories are the best way to explore human truths. Evidence of these convictions can be found in Amber's steamy paranormals and quirky, hot contemporaries, which have been published by Omnific, Entangled, and Lyrical/Kensington. She lives with her husband and two children in San Francisco and can be found at amberbelldene.com.

Young, attractive women drawn to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood via an internet promise of stardom and romance have been disappearing. A judge’s daughter leaves behind a clue and a trip down Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame reveals a connection to a high powered real estate mogul and to a cartel targeting girls for human trafficking.
Old Hollywood has its secrets, its impersonators and backdoor entrances to old speakeasies and clubs where only those with the proper credentials can go. And when Carol Childs gets too close, she finds herself politically at odds with powers that threaten to undue her career and like the very girls she’s seeking, disappear.
Books in the Carol Childs Mystery Series:

  • BEYOND A DOUBT (#2)
  • WITHOUT A DOUBT (#3) January 2016
My Review
I liked everything about this mystery: the plot, the characters, the set, the simple and linear style of the writer.
Carol is a radio journalist but often become an investigator. In the last year and a half, they have disappeared four girls in the surroundings of Hollywood. It's just found the body of a girl, is one of the disappeared, the daughter of a judge. Carol wants to investigate on their own, definitely  wants to find all the girls. But it will not be easy, especially when her daughter will be in serious danger. She must also investigate the disappearance of the Marilyn's star in the Walk Of Fame.
The characters are well defined. I really loved Carol, I thought she was such a great and strong character! She's a single mother, has two wonderful children. She tries to reconcile her many work commitments with her family and fortunately can count on her friend Sheri. She's a nice woman and handyman, the ideal friend of all working mothers. Carol has also a beautiful and fascinating boyfriend Eric, an FBI agent.
The writing flows beautifully, the plot is developed very well, is very realistic and exciting, full of suspense.
This is the second in Silverman's series but can be read as a standalone. I look forward to the next one coming out in January.

BLURB:

It's a novel well written and engaging, I was completely glued to the pages; once I started reading it, I could not put it down.
Greg wants to change his life and leave law school, only now has to find a new plan for his life. The same day reads an article about the death of a young local athlete and at home turns out that he had sent an email a few days ago: he wanted to talk to his father about a family affair. Greg wants to shed light on this case and makes discoveries really shocking.
Greg is a character well constructed and very realistic: we can easily identify with him. He has a terrible past which has to deal. He has a father who expects a lot from him, a man so busy that his family should make an appointment with him if they want to talk to him during working hours. He doesn't endorse  that his son leave law school without having a backup plan.
It 's a fascinating story, full of twists, and has elements of paranormal, mystery, romance. There are some really exciting and touching parts.
Highly recommend!

EXCERPT:

MIKEL THOMAS DEAD AT 27

Greg studied the series of pictures of the same man, as a teen in a high school basketball uniform, in a college uniform, and in a professional one. The line for coffee at 8:30 in the morning was nearly out the door, so it gave Greg time to flip through the story.

Mikel Thomas, 27, was found in his West Los Angeles home Thursday night. His wife, Nisha, found Thomas bleeding from an apparent, self-inflicted gunshot wound when she returned home from a taping of her talk show. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Greg caught up with the line's progress and continued to read.

Thomas, a professional basketball player, had a troubled career in Philadelphia, Miami, and Sacramento. He attended Pasadena High School where an injury forced him to give up a promising football career. Thomas began playing basketball as a junior and became a top college recruit. He attended college in Los Angeles before being drafted to Philadelphia.

Shoulda played sports. Greg thought.

Thomas was involved in a shooting incident that left one dead after he was traded to Miami. His repeated altercations on and off the court led to a suspension. After a trade to Sacramento, Thomas missed part of the season for an undisclosed medical condition following a mental evaluation in a Pasadena hospital last Christmas. Thomas had a history of drug and alcohol incidents, but detectives declined to comment on that being a possible cause. The investigation continues.

Pretty standard celeb drama. Greg barely registered the comments from the player's wife and a teammate about the shock of it all. He caught up with the coffee line and skimmed further.

Mary Thomas, Mikel's mother, called into a sports radio show late Thursday. When asked if there was any indication that Thomas was in trouble, she responded. "He kept saying that his disappearance from that Bliss bar changed him forever. It was that crazy bar that killed him. I know it."

Disappearance? Never heard about that. How does someone like him disappear without a word?

"Excuse me. Are you going to order or just read the paper?" The woman growled behind him.

"Oh…uh…sorry." Greg stepped to the counter, ordered, and added the paper. Greg went back to the story immediately. He read the mother's quote again. How does a famous athlete disappear from a bar, and it never makes the news? Greg shook his head as the article ended with a note about survivors. That's it?

Greg tucked the paper under his arm, grabbed his coffee, and headed out. Sounded pretty standard except for the disappearance thing. He walked to his car on autopilot. What's stranger? A suicide blamed on a disappearance or the disappearance of a celebrity that went unnoticed in La-La Land?

Review & Giveaway: Finding Mr. Right Now by Meg Benjamin

Finding Mr. Right Now
by Meg Benjamin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Monica McKellar, associate producer of Finding Mr. Right, is desperate. One of the show’s bachelors has bailed one week before shooting starts. She not only needs a replacement ASAP, he has to get the temperamental bachelorette’s stamp of approval.
Fortunately there’s a hot guy right under her nose who’s a perfect fit. Unfortunately, he pushes all her hot buttons. Until the show’s over, her hands—and every other part of her body—are tied.
When Paul DeWitt signed on to write for the reality show, “Bachelor #10” wasn’t supposed to be in his job description. He fully expects to be cut early on, which will free him to focus on the real object of his attraction. Monica.
Instead, he’s a finalist, and they’re all packed in an SUV climbing the Continental Divide, headed for Salt Box, Colorado. Where stampeding horses, vindictive tabloid editors, and one capricious bachelorette’s waffling over suitors may conspire to end Paul and Monica’s romance before it even starts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My Review:

It was really fun to read this story set behind the scenes of a reality TV show.
Monica works for the show Finding Mr Right: it must finally find the perfect guy for Ronnie Valero. Unfortunately one of the ten competitors escapes just before starting the show, taking away even the shirts of the scene. They must quickly find a new candidate. Paul is a writer, writes the stunts for TV shows. He must deal with the screenplay for Finding Mr. Right and it happens just as they are desperately looking for the tenth competitor. Paul is perfect to join the cast of bachelors. The problem comes when he realizes is more attracted to Monica that Ronnie: the risk is high, they may lose both their jobs .....
The protagonists are lovely, the competitors of the reality, and especially Ronnie, much less. Ronnie is capricious and spoiled, prey to many hysterical crisis. Monica is really good at her job: is able to resist the pressure of her work and to manage perfectly the vagaries of her star and contingencies of the entertainment world. Paul is charming and sexy, with Monica form a couple hilarious and hot.
A great start to this new series, I hope to read soon the second book.

It 's a romance sexy, fun, with a style simple and fluent, a fast pace and a cast of interesting characters. It's ideal as beach reading and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a novel contemporary different as usual.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

EXCERPT:

She had no idea what to say after an experience like that. Was it good for you suddenly seemed like a supremely dumb question.

Paul’s lips whispered across her forehead. “Don’t go all silent on me, Monica. I need to know what you’re thinking here.”

She blew out a quick breath. “Um…whoa?”

He chuckled against her hair. “Okay, that pretty much sums it up I guess.” He leaned back against the side of the couch, shifting his weight, pulling her up against his body again. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to squash you.”

“You didn’t.” She ran her fingertips along his cheek, staring at his face in the shadows, the angles and hollows made stark in the dim light.

“Talk to me,” he said softly.

“I don’t…” She shook her head. “What do you want me to say?”

“How you feel, what you think.”

She narrowed her eyes. “Are you usually this talkative after sex?”

He frowned slightly, his brows drawing together. “Not that I recall, no. I just…I like to hear your voice.” He brought her hand to his mouth, pressing his lips against her fingers. “Particularly now. I can’t really see you here, so I need to hear you.”

Her lips curved into a smile, almost against her will. “I feel lovely, considering that I should be freezing and squashed and I’m not. And I think that was insane.”

His brows came together. “Insane good or insane crazy?”

The smile widened. “Both.”

He laughed softly. “But memorable, right?”

“Very memorable. And very insane.”
