Review & Giveaway:Second Chance Marquess by Jessica Jefferson

Second Chance Marquess
by Jessica Jefferson

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Historical Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

When Wilhemina Turner’s younger sister runs off with a young Lothario, she has no choice but to turn to the notorious rake who broke his promise and her heart, for assistance. George Bartlett, the Marquess of Chesterton, hasn’t forgotten the woman who hurt him so many years ago, but can’t deny her request, knowing that his brother’s reputation, and fortune, is at risk. A series of misfortunes leave the straight-laced widow and committed bachelor stranded, sharing both close quarters and old secrets. But when morning comes, will this unlikely pair find a second chance at love?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Review:
It's a very entertaining and intriguing Regency, I'm happy  that is the first book of a new series, I'm looking forward to reading the next books.
An escape of love between his brother and her sister obliges Wilhelmina and George to make a long journey together. George accuses Wilhelmina's sister of being interested only in his brother's money but she knows her sister is silly and naive but not an opportunist. They went close to getting married ten years earlier and were both with broken hearts. She is now a young widow while he is a marquis who has had many adventures. Is there still a chance for their love?
Willie is very strong, generous, willing to make huge sacrifices to make her sister happy as living with her hated aunt, the one that had previously separated her from George. He is really in love with her and tries to make her understand it in every ways. I loved their dialogues and especially their small and keep quarrels.
It was a quick and engaging reading, well-written and flowing, another delightful story by Jessica Jefferson.
If you love Regency or second chance romances this book is to read
EXCERPT
“A servant from the kitchen and your sister’s maid? My innocence is being compromised because of the claim of the help?” He balked.
“Their word is just as worthy as anyone else’s. She described the seal on your coach perfectly. That’s how I knew it was you.” She should have been shocked, hurt, even devastated at the notion of Lord Chesterton seducing a member of her own family, but she wasn’t. He’d always operated under a different moral code than the rest of Society, showing a blatant disregard for propriety as well as indifference to anyone’s feelings but his own. His lack of remorse was a testament to his guile and legendary depravity.
All she cared about was getting her sister back, preferably with both her reputation and virginity intact. Though she’d be willing to forgo the latter for the former seeing that it was nearly impossible to fake an intact reputation.
He combed his hand through his already mussed hair. “This woman actually saw me speaking with your sister?”
“Not you exactly. But she saw Kitty board your carriage.”
My carriage?” He repeated. “Well, that’s hardly the same thing…” His voice trailed off as he rubbed his chin. “In the park you say?”
“Yes.”
“And just when did she say she saw me?”
“Yesterday afternoon.”
“And what exactly is your sister’s name?”
“Miss Kitty Marks.”
“Miss Katherine Marks?” he clarified.
“Yes, that’s her!” She answered, annoyed that the conversation had carried on this long. “Now do you remember?”
The man took her by the shoulders and pushed her aside, walking straight past her in a bee-line down the hall.
“Don’t walk away from me!” she called after him, her skin burning underneath her gown in the places his hands had touched her. “What about Kitty?”
She chased after him, following him into a study where she found him pouring a generous tumbler of brandy. He promptly downed the amber liquid and refilled his glass.
“Mrs. Turner, I’m afraid I may know where your sister is.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My Review:

Another incredible and delicate story about the wonderful mother-daughter relationship by Charlotte Hubbard, will capture you from the first page and you can't put it down. I was very upset when I arrived at the end, I wished would never end.
Rose is destroyed, in a year has lost her parents and her husband. She also discovers that her life is based on a huge lie: she was adopted. She is very tight, feels the desire and curiosity to know her real mother but at the same time doesn't want to betray who had loved her as a true daughter. Matthias also needs to start a new life after losing his wife. He and Rose will help each other to take back their lives.
Rose is a very likeable character, determined, strong, loyal, a wonderful mother, impossible not to become attached to her and to her sweet little girl.
It's written really well, romantic, exciting, funny and moving.
If you are looking for an intense and full of emotions reading Charlotte Hubbard will not disappoint you.

EXCERPT:

“How was your morning with Jerusalem and Vernon?” Rose asked as she managed a smile for the bishop’s wife. “I hope you were a gut little guest?”

“The best company we could’ve asked for,” Jerusalem replied. “We gathered the eggs, and Gracie counted the new chicks in the barn—”

“Thirty-eight!” Gracie exclaimed.

“—and then we made French toast—”

“And I ate two whole pieces!” Gracie crowed. “With maple surple and fried apples.”

Jerusalem stopped at the edge of the tilled garden spot, and when she held out her hand, Gracie raced over to grab it. “And we played hide-and-seek with Vernon, too, didn’t we, dear?”

“Jah, but I found him every time!” Gracie replied. “He thought I wouldn’t see him under that tarp, but his big butt was stickin’ out!”

“Gracie,” Rose chided. “This is our bishop you’re talking about. Be polite.”

Jerusalem chuckled. “She speaks the truth. Hiding isn’t Vernon’s best talent, I’m afraid. But he was a gut sport about it when Gracie found him right off.”

 “See, ‘Rusalem?” the little girl said, pointing to the mounded rows in the garden. “We put the lettuce on this end, and the peas down this way. Mamma said we could plant an extra long row of those, coz they’re my favorite.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Many moons ago—like, in 1983 while she was still a school librarian—Charlotte Hubbard sold her first story to True Story. This launched her into writing around seventy of those “true confessions” stories over the years, and she’s been a slave to her overactive imagination ever since. Over the course of her writing career, she has sold nearly 50 books—most recently, Amish romance series she’s written as Charlotte Hubbard or Naomi King.
Charlotte lived in Missouri for most of her life, so her Amish stories are set in imaginary Missouri towns. These days she lives in St. Paul, MN with her husband of 40+ years and their Border collie, Vera.

**CONTENT WARNING: Due to mature content, recommended for readers aged 18+**

My Review
It 's a pleasant and very passionate reading with a cast of characters really adorable. There is a love story very intense and a bit different from the usual where a man tries in every way to seduce a woman. Will he succeed?
Crystal lives happily in Peaceful Harbor and can pretend that the life in her hometown never existed. She comes home only once a month, her mother and her brother live in the back of a van, he has problems with the law and  she  with alcohol, her father passed away some years ago. Crystal has a very insistent suitor, Bear. She has knew him a night out with her friend Gemma and since then he tries to seduce her but she does not give in.
The life of Crystal is very complicated, she must try to overcome her past and let go to the special court of Bear. He is very charming and sexy, a tattooed rider, a real alpha male but can also be tender and affectionate. Their dialogues are really fun and the chemistry between them is really hot.
Although it is a standalone book, some of these characters we have known in the book "Tru Blue", we hope that there are other stories with these incredible characters.
If you love romance this book is a must-read

Review & Giveaway: Bella Luna by Sharon Struth

Bella Luna
by Sharon Struth

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Rose Richardson is on the run from her dangerous ex-husband, a crime she didn’t commit—and the embarrassment of being an advice columnist with a disastrous personal life. Donning a fake identity, she escapes to a lovely lake house rental in rural Connecticut…only to discover her refuge is already occupied. Leo Drake is devastatingly handsome–and clearly wants to be alone. Rose stands her ground, even while she fears being found out for the fugitive she is. Plus, her sweet dog, Bella, seems to like the brooding widower, so how bad could he be?

A prize winning novelist, Leo lost everything after he lost his wife. But his mysterious housemate just might be the muse he needs to reignite his writing career. Despite his misgivings, Rose has secrets that only draw him closer, firing his imagination, even as his heart struggles with the attraction building between them. Plus, he kind of likes the quirky pooch. And as he tries to untangle his unusual predicament, Bella’s antics just might be the key to showing the loner that love is the only inspiration he needs…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Review:
It was a pleasant reading, relaxing and enjoyable: a beautiful love story with a little of mystery and great characters.
Leo and Rose are both fleeing from the world. He is a writer in crisis after the death of his wife, takes refuge to Blue Moon Lake to find peace and try to overcome his writer's block. Rose is running away from her former husband, from some problems with the law, needs a new identity and a quiet and far place to retreat. When they find out that have rented the same place the only solution is to share it.
Initially Leo is a man grumpy and gruff, very closed up in himself but when starts to open his soul to Rose becomes really adorable. Rose is a strong and determined woman, she decides to start a new life. Bella is a very special animal.
Although it is the third book in the series it can be read as a standalone.
It 's written very well, with a flowing and engaging style, a reading sweet, romantic even moving.
I highly recommend it.
EXCERPT:
A loud creak sounded from above. Her heartbeat picked up speed. Another creak. Footsteps? A light upstairs flashed on and cut a beam to the staircase wall. Bella’s ears perked at the same moment the slow rise of panic crawled through Rose’s veins.
Move. Move! Only she stood still, frozen in fear as her mind raced with images from vagrants to serial killers.
The dog emitted a guttural growl.
Slow creaks of the floorboards above magnified in the silent house. Rose stretched her trembling hand, snatched the leash off the table, and leaned over, just shy of snapping it on Bella so they could race like hell out the door.
Footsteps pounded. Fast and hard, they hit the staircase. Before she could grab the dog’s collar, Bella bolted.
Owooooo-woo-woo-woo-woo!
Bella’s howl echoed in the silent house. She stopped at the bottom step and stared fearlessly into the face of danger. Terror, however, had cemented Rose’s feet in place.
A dark-haired man reached the bottom, gripping a baseball bat in a ready-to-launch position over his shoulder. “Don’t move!” He stood at the last step, too close for her to make a quick dash out the door.
Rose’s heart pounded against her ribs and her mouth went dry. She raised her hands in the air. “Please. Don’t hurt me!”
The intruder blinked back at her through sleepy eyes. Thick tresses of messy hair jutted from his head. The rugged edges of an unshaven shadow highlighted his tight angled jaw. Her gaze traveled past his wrinkled, loosely buttoned plaid shirt, his baggy sweatpants, and stopped at his bare feet.
Bella bared her teeth, glaring at him bravely as he towered over the short basset hound. Her nose lifted and she inhaled a sharp breath. Owoooooooooooo! Owooooooooo!
The dog’s war cry got the stranger’s attention for a split second, but he quickly returned his narrowed gaze to Rose. “I don’t know who you are, but you’d better have a damn good reason for breaking into my house.”
Book Blast & Giveaway: The Castle by Skye Warren
The Castle
by Skye Warren
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE:  Contemporary Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Safe in the ivory tower…
Gabriel Miller swears he’ll keep me safe. Enemies lurk outside, waiting to strike. An army held back by these walls.
Except some animal instinct warns me the danger is much closer. It’s already here. Is Gabriel my protector or my enemy? Is this house a castle or a cage?
There’s nowhere for me to go, no one left for me to trust.
No escape from a past determined to capture its prize.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:

“Still giving orders, little virgin? Is that something you’re born with in the St. James family, or did they teach you that along with your ABCs?”

Rage tightens a knot in my stomach. “I’m not a virgin.”

“No?” he asks, lifting a hand to my face.

I stand very still as he captures my chin between his thumb and forefinger, torn between wanting to wrench away and wanting him to kiss me. How can he make me feel alive when I’ve been sleepwalking for months, years? What sick twist of fate let the hands of this man bring me pleasure?

“You made sure of that.” I mean the words to come out cold, unhurt. Instead I sound breathless and somehow inviting. The white carpet may as well be streaked with red. We’re both back in his bedroom, both flushed and sated and ripped to shreds from what he’s just done.

He lifts my face, almost tender. “I put my cock into your warm little hole. Pushed right through that thin hymen to do it. It felt like fucking heaven to break you open.”

I’m a tuning fork in his hands, and the sound I make is pure arousal. “I despise you.”

“You were so wet,” he says, almost thoughtful. “But some of it was blood, wasn’t it?”

“I’m going to find a way to get my house back.”

He bends his head slightly, enough that our lips are an inch away, the words a tickle of breath against my lips. “I got off on the slide of your blood on my cock. I came that way, spilling salt into the fresh open wound.”

There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to him, no line I wouldn’t cross in this moment. My anger takes an unholy shape, rearing back with all the fury and fear of a wild horse ready to trample his enemy. “And God help me, I’m going to ruin you. The way you did my father. I’m going to break you.”

He nudges my chin higher, exposing the vulnerable line of my throat. His mouth drops to the tender skin, a whisper of a kiss. “Do you want to make me bleed, little virgin?”

The violence takes me by surprise. My swing is wild, aimed straight for his face with all my strength. He catches my wrist midmotion, the abrupt stop shooting pain down my arm. We’re frozen that way, him holding me, breathing each other’s air.

“Don’t call me that,” I say between clenched teeth.

“Little virgin.”

“I’m not. You saw the proof of it. You paid a million dollars for it.”

“Actually,” he says, voice deceptively mild. “I paid a million dollars to use you for a month. And as that month isn’t over yet, I think I’d like to collect.”

Shock courses through me, singeing every angry intention. “No.”

“And as for your virginity, there are a hundred ways you haven’t been taken. A thousand ways you haven’t been fucked. A million dollars left to earn.”

“That money’s mine. You sent me away.”

“And yet,” he says, echoing his earlier words, “here you fucking are. This is what you wanted. This is what you came for. Did you really think you’d see me and walk away without my come inside you?”

My gasp sounds virginal even to myself. “Of course I did.”

He uses the hold on my wrist to drag me closer, off balance, almost falling into him. His warmth surrounds me, along with a musk my body remembers. Alarm bells ring more than they did this morning. A strange man could hurt me, but Gabriel—he’s worse. My own kryptonite.

“Here’s the thing about fucking a virgin,” he whispers, breath a caress on my temple. “You gave me your pretty little hymen, the small spill of blood. The first feel of those walls squeezing my cock. And there’s no way to get it back, not ever. No matter who else you fuck. Even if you settle down with some prep-school fucker and let him climb on top of you every single night, I’ll always be your first. You will always be my little virgin.”

The show of possession does something strange to me. It should be offensive. It’s meant to be offensive, but the humiliation turns liquid and hot inside my body. And the worst part is, I can’t even deny the truth. He left an imprint inside me. I can still remember the stretch of him, the burn. The very shape of that heavy thickness I can feel against my stomach now. And anyone who comes after him, they’ll never quite fill the space he carved inside of me.

“That’s right,” he murmurs, soothing now that I’ve acquiesced. “I’ve got you.”

“No, we can’t—”

He releases my wrist only to run a finger along my cheek. “So young. You look so young like this.”

“It’s the makeup,” I say with difficulty. And the hair. And the clothes. In a thousand ways I was different before, the society princess. What am I now? Almost homeless. Definitely scared.

His eyes gentle, more brown than they’ve been before. “You didn’t think you were getting fucked today. You got dressed and took the bus and came up the elevator having no idea.”

“Don’t feel sorry for me.”

A slight smile. “Not enough to stop. Take off those clothes. Let’s see what you look like when you’re just a sweet, innocent college girl and not the toy I bought at auction.”
