And when a reenactor is found dead at one of the historic site’s German farms, Chloe’s boyfriend, cop Roelke McKenna, suspects murder.
The more Roelke learns about reenacting, the more he fears that a killer will join the ranks at Chloe’s special event. Then Chloe discovers a disturbing secret about Roelke’s Civil War-era ancestors. Together they struggle to solve crimes past and present . . . before Chloe loses her job and another reenactor loses his life.

My Review

I have read the sixth book in this series and I immediately was fond of Chloe, we shared the passion for the House on the Prairie. An interesting historical reconstruction, a turbulent love story and two mysterious murders was hard not to love this book
Chloe Ellefson is a curator for a museum in Wisconsin. Her latest assignment is to organize a Civil War reenactment. It will be a great event, she would like to represent the everyday life of that time but her boss wants more battles to attract visitors. One of the interpreter finds a dead man. It's forced to intervene Roelke, cop and Chloe's boyfriend. They don't know who he is or why someone has killed him. The situation becomes more complex when another reeanactor is killed.
I really liked the alternation of history between 1983 and 1860, Chloe has to know the history of the Roelke's family to solve the problems in their relationship,
You can read the series in any order, the author is very good at providing essential information to understand the story without having read the previous books.
The plot is well woven and well developed, excellent historical reconstruction, interesting characters: this is a very enjoyable reading.
Highly recommended
