American lass seeks brawny Scot...

As if being newly single isn’t brutal enough, Sloane Chatfield's friends are getting obnoxious about setting her up. When Sloane insists she's waiting for a certain sexy fictional Highlander to come along, her friends surprise her with a trip to Scotland to find her a new boyfriend. She’d rather have a root canal. But if she can find a Highland hunk to “break her heart” before her friends arrive…

In a remote Highland village, Galen Buchanan is struggling to keep the family pub afloat. Everything is falling apart, he’s running out of money, and now there's an opinionated American lass parked at his best table, driving him mad. But then Sloane asks Galen to be her pretend Highland boyfriend...and offers him enough money to save the pub. It’s only for a few days, he figures. What's the worst that could happen?

My Review

Every book I read set in Scotland makes me love more and more  this land: its landscapes, its culture and its traditions, its inhabitants. I really like Galen, the highlander protagonist of this story and its wonderful accent.
Sloane has been left by her boyfriend shortly before the wedding and her friends try to find a replacement quickly. Tired of their interference, she goes to Scotland to look for her "Jamie Fraser" (one of Outlander's protagonists). She has the unfortunate idea to communicate to her friends that she has found him and is happy with him. The drama comes when their friends want to know him. The only person who can help her is Galen, the owner of a pub where she took refuge for internet access. He's rude and grumpy, they have argued several times but he is the only one who can pretend her boyfriend. He doesn't want to but, when she offers much money, agrees: his business is in a serious financial situation and unfortunately he needs really this money. They must pretend  engaged for a few days but it will not be easy, they fight continuously. Perhaps pretending, pretending, something real between them arises.
The relationship between Galen and Sloane is really hilarious: their squabbles are really fun but the chemistry between them is really strong. They are two completely different people: he is Scottish, grew up in a small country and his activity is in crisis, must fight every day to not close it; she is an American girl, very rich, born and raised in city, used to living in luxury. Galen is full of prejudices against Sloane but knowing her better finds that she is very sweet and generous. Her friends from Chicago, instead, are unbearable.
It 's a quick read, cute and fun, the plot is a bit predictable but well developed.
Ideal as beach reading
