As the groups assembled and Anouk was assigned to a line, her heart began to speed up. She was grateful that several other people were ahead of her, and she hoped it would give her enough time to calm her nerves. As the first archers took aim, the crowd grew silent. Lord Gerasim gave the call and four arrows flew, landing with a thunk into their targets. Cheers rose up from the crowd, and Anouk felt the excitement in the air and a thrill at being part of it.

When she stepped up to take her first shot, she was distracted by the archers in the lines on either side of her. When the call was given, Anouk rushed to let her arrow loose and it landed several rings outside of the bullseye.

Anouk took a breath and lifted her bow for the second shot. Everyone disappeared from her sight; all of the sounds faded. All she saw was the target. Her second arrow landed in the ring just outside the bullseye. Her third arrow hit the center. The scores were tallied and eight of the archers left the field, but Anouk remained.
